We are the key to our own recoveries!

Guidance and Resources for Stroke Recovery

Alison Bonds Shapiro suffered two debilitating and nearly fatal brain stem strokes in her early fifties. She was profoundly disabled. Today, after a remarkable recovery, she uses her knowledge and experience to teach and motivate others as they recover. She often co-teaches with Rita Martin, an acupuncturist and stroke survivor, and Kate Deaton, an expert in neuromovement. We offer stroke recovery and mindfullness skills grounded in mindful attention, warmth, humor and sensory awareness. โ€œWE CAN make a difference in our own recoveries.โ€ Learn more about our Teaching Program and Stroke Recovery Classes.

In 2009, Alison co-produced the DVD What now? Sharing Brain Recovery Lessons. This video is used across the world to help survivors and family members reframe their ideas of recovery, build hope and begin to understand what is possible.
